Jim Krenz’s ANAGRAMATION The performer displays a “pack” of business cards that are held together with a rubber hand. One side is the performer’s business information. The reverse side has a magical logo, and the phrase “For Astonishment....” on it. The spectator marks his initials next to the logo on the top card of the stack. While the ink is drying, a playing card is selected from a deck. The selection is not revealed yet, hut is placed face-down onto the table. The pack of business cards is picked up, and the rubber hand is removed. The performer explains that the cards were printed with a special kind of ink that is very rare & unusual. It is known as “Toon Ink.”It is an experimental formula that will help artists in the creation of animation for cartoons. The performer riffles the back card off of the stack of business cards, and the phrase “For Astonishment.... is seen. He then shakes the entire stack, and then riffles the second business card onto the first. The second card appears identical to the first, except in one regard. The letter “h” in the word Astonishment is slightly lower in the “baseline” alignment of the word . The performer continues to riffle the cards, and as they flip past, the printed letter “h” moves down (as if the ink is sliding across the card), and bounces off of the printed border of the business card. The “h” moves upwards, and collides with the other letters, which now careen haphazardly around the surface of the card. As the letters slow down, they are seen to he forming into new words in an “anagramic” way. When they are finished moving, they read “Nine of Hearts’.” For the climax, the card that was selected earlier is revealed, and indeed, it is the Nine of Hearts’. The top card of the stack is shown to still have the spectator’s initials marked on it, and is given (as a souvenir) to the spectator to examine.. .neither the initials, nor the “Nine of Hearts!” will rub off or smear....
